El Paso Fire Station 20 – Bay Addition & Renovation
Fire Station 20 in El Paso underwent a successful improvement and expansion project led by In*Situ Architecture, funded by the 2019 City of El Paso Public Safety Bond. The first phase focused on crucial infrastructure upgrades, making room for new fire apparatuses by reconfiguring the space and adding a new bay.
The project started with the complete removal of the covered porch to create space for the new bay. Design priorities included integrating the addition seamlessly while preserving the original aesthetics. Carefully chosen materials were used to blend tradition and modernity, with notable additions such as a Plymovent system for all three bays, a new mechanical system, and data/communication infrastructure. Close collaboration with the fire department ensured minimal disruptions and effective communication to maintain station functionality during construction. Moving into the second phase, the project aims to further enhance Fire Station 20, focusing on improving firefighters' living conditions, upgrading facilities and equipment, and enhancing public safety performance. The renovation plan includes asphalt paving, roof repair, exterior painting, window and door replacements, interior renovations, accessibility updates, LED lighting installation, and updates to the mechanical system. This project demonstrates a commitment to functionality and aesthetic continuity at Fire Station 20, reflecting dedicated efforts to meet contemporary standards for safety, efficiency, and the well-being of the firefighters who call it home. |
