MD Barber Shop: A Timeless Tenant Improvement in the Historic Anson Mills Building
Explore the architectural transformation taking place within the historic Anson Mills Building, where MD Barber Shop, a tenant improvement project is breathing new life into a previously vacant space.
Our design concept takes you on a journey back to the art deco barbershops of the early 20th century, immersing you in the warmth of natural wood, the luxury of marble floors, and the timeless elegance of brass fixtures. This design not only captures the spirit of a bygone era but also pays homage to the historic materiality of the Mills Corridor. In response to our client's requirements, we've incorporated three individual shampoo stations, each featuring detailed replicas of antique barber chairs. Careful studies were made to ensure that the shampoo lavatories were mounted at the precise height to which the chairs could recline. Custom millwork plays a significant role in the space and represents a notable portion of the construction budget. Three eight-foot-tall credenzas serve as functional barber stations and elegant storage units, offering ample space for a diverse range of grooming products. At the middle of these workstations, a large mirror was installed, with its backdrop adorned by the original brick demising wall. This project stands as a testament to our dedication to seamlessly merging contemporary functionality with the timeless allure of history, ensuring that the past and the present exist in perfect harmony within this distinguished setting. |
