PASEO DE LAS LUCES, CITY OF EL PASO
South El Paso St—a half a mile of local shops residing in a multi-colored tapestry of two-story brick buildings—is the principal gateway for across the border shoppers. The In*Situ's concept behind the urban street revitalization was to connect downtown El Paso with its sister city Ciudad Juarez. The Paseo De Las Luces Project (Walk of the Lights) acts as a corridor that makes the street more pedestrian-friendly and brightens the pathway at night. The designs were gifted to Ciudad Juarez for them to interpret in their own fashion. This, in turn, created an international street made up of the same design language. The corridor is anchored by an archway at each end of the street, one at the base of the international bridge and the other at the foot of the historical Camino Real Hotel. The Archways are connected to their context by using the same art deco style used in various building facades around downtown.
This project designed and built by In*Situ Architecture was awarded an AIA Honor Award under the Mayor's Recognition in 2019. |
