"Star Ceiling” – El Paso Museum of Arts Foundation
"Star Ceiling" is an exceptional collaborative art project between In*Situ Architecture and the renowned artist Leo Villareal, known for his LED light art installations.
The project is poised to unfold at the south entrance of the El Paso Museum of Art, where an avant-garde LED array is set to transform the space. This visionary endeavor repurposes on-site structural concrete columns initially intended for the Arts Festival Plaza, ingeniously supporting a canopy housing panels for the LED light art component. The estimated investment for this groundbreaking installation stands at $6 million. In*Situ Architecture is actively engaged in collaboration with the artist throughout the analysis, planning, and construction phases of the installation. The 120-foot LED array is designed to captivate with 13,500 individually addressable, monochrome, and energy-efficient LEDs, arranged in non-repeating patterns to provide a one-of-a-kind experience for each visitor. Beyond its technological marvel, "Star Ceiling" is conceived as a spatial masterpiece, creating dynamic and adaptable settings for art, performance, collaboration, and exploration. This aligns seamlessly with In*Situ's overarching philosophy of crafting experience-rich, socially dynamic communities in El Paso. Moreover, the installation will serve a as a place for reflection dedicated to the thousands of individuals across the region who lost their lives to COVID-19.
